Urban Residence
This former 1,000 s.f. circa 1910 bungalow was transformed
into a spacious 4-bedroom, 3-1/2 bath luxury single family
home. A second story and rear addition, coupled with a major
basement excavation more than doubled the living space. "Attic"
roof trusses created extra storage space at minimal cost.
Painstaking care was taken to match the original
face-bricks on the second story addition. Historically accurate
3-over-1 windows with true divided lites give the project an
historic feel and help the finished product "fit-in" with the
surrounding neighborhood. Natural materials, such as wood and
granite, give this home a warm and comfortable feeling.
Oversized french-doors and
transoms wash the kitchen with natural light and connect the
inside-living space to an oversized deck and yard. The kitchen
wood flooring and deck wood flooring was installed at opposing
45-degree angles for visual interest and to "guide" people
through the spaces for living and entertaining. Energy-efficient products such as high
R-value insulating materials, 2 x 6 outside wall construction, low-e argon-filled double-pain
windows and 90%+ efficiency HVAC equipment make this house
inexpensive to operate and add comfort and sound-dampening in Chicago's harsh
climate and noisy urban conditions. Structured wiring for video, data, voice, security and
entertainment future-proof this gem from constantly-changing
technology.
